About me
Hello, I am Tomoko Ngai // Tochiko (for children’s book illustrations), an artist based in Norwich, England. Thank you for visiting my website 🙂 I am passionate about hand-drawing, especially characters and plant-life with pencils and watercolours. Art has helped me through difficult periods in my life so I am hoping my own art can help others.
Tomoko’s Profile
I was born in Japan and grew up with pencils and papers since I was a little girl. I pursued my studies in art for 6 years in Kanagawa and Tokyo. My work was selected at the ‘Size 0 Exhibition’ at Tokyo Wonder Site Museum (currently known as Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo). I also had a solo and a number of group exhibitions at various art galleries.
After finishing my studies, I then worked as an assistant for 5 years at contemporary art galleries and the metropolitan museum in Tokyo. I also supported art workshops for children as an assistant and volunteered at an art and craft studio for primary school children.
I set up ‘Studio FuFu’ in 2012 and participated in manga events and sold my original manga works, ‘Midnight Maya’ and ‘Sunny in the Grey’ at Tokyo Big Sight.
A big life change happened in 2014. I moved to Norwich, England and a new chapter began. After giving birth to two beautiful children, I started the ‘Stay at Home’ drawing series on Instagram during the lockdown in 2020.
In 2022, the children’s book, ‘The Golden Mango Tree’ which I drew all the illustrations for was published by Branching Out Books. It won The Mal Peet Children’s Award in The East Anglian Book Awards 2023.

イギリス、ノーリッチを拠点に活動しているアーティストの魏 智子(ないともこ)です。子ども向けの絵の活動では、凸山とち子（とつやまとちこ)と名乗っています。
主に鉛筆と水彩を使った手描きイラスト、特にキャラクターや植物を描くことが得意です。
絵を描くこと/見ることで癒された経験から、あたたかな気持ちになれる絵をお届けできるよう心がけています。どうぞよろしくお願いします。
魏 智子 プロフィール
神奈川と東京で6年間美術を学ぶ。
トーキョーワンダーサイト公募展「Size 0」入選、展示。
(現Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo)
その他都内のギャラリーにて個展開催、グループ展出品。
美術学校卒業後、都内の現代アートギャラリーや美術館でアシスタントを5年ほど務める。
子ども向けのアートワークショップのアシスタントや、子ども造形教室のボランティア活動も経験。
その後、Studio FuFuを設立。
東京ビッグサイトの漫画イベントCOMITIAにて、同人誌「Midnight Maya」と「Sunny in the Grey」を販売。
2014年、イギリス、ノーリッチに生活の拠点を移す。
二児出産後の2020年、ロックダウン中に「Stay at Home」ドローイングシリーズをインスタグラムで開始。
2022年にBranching Out Books 刊、絵本「The Golden Mango Tree」の挿画を担当。The East Anglian Book Awards 2023にて絵本賞を受賞。
